In 1973, doing what a lot of us did back then, I had an epiphany of sorts while looking thru my girlfriends Vogue. With each page, I began to notice the details, drawn into them, their logic, the art. The colors, shapes, composition, and of course the beautiful women, extravagant locations and incredible things. The more I saw, absorbed, the more I understood myself, what it was I had been unable to express before as a young man from Detroit, a journeyman tool and die maker.

Creativity

As I closed the magazine and lifted my eyes from that final photograph, I turned to my friend and said…
“I’m going to be a fashion photographer and some day I’m going to shoot for Vogue”
I didn’t own a camera, had little interest in photography at the time, but I knew what I was meant to do. I enrolled in a college that had an excellent photography program, and got my degree and technical skill set. After working as an assistant for several years, I started out on my own and some 8 years later, I did my first shoot for Vogue, and so many more amazing fashion clients.
In 2000, after 20 years shooting fashion, products, and people, I switched to cars. Just because I wanted to, needed something new, and was confident my experience with fashion would make me a very different “car” photographer. And it did. It’s been an incredible journey.

One day, dozens of amazing clients later, I was talking to my Mom and she stopped me and said,

“Carl please... get a real job”
